where does Geekbench (Mac) get the processor clock frequency
I am curious because it has been reported that people can put a 3.0 GHz rated CPU into a Mac Pro that originally was a 2.66 GHz machine and it appears to the System Profiler as a 3.0 GHz processor. The specific situation is replacing the stock x5150's in a 2.66 GHz Mac Pro 1,1 with x5365 CPUs and the CPUs are reported as 3.0 GHz. And their geekbench scores (11,500+) seem to support that the processors are indeed running at 3 GHz without over clocking the motherboard. So I was wondering how Geekbench comes up with the reported processor frequency. Thanks!

Thanks for your message. Geekbench gets the processor frequency directly from Mac OS X. Also, the reports you've heard are correct; I know of several customers who have upgraded their Mac Pro processors with excellent results. You can read about a few examples here:
