iPhone 5 giving vastly different geekbench scores

I recently purchased the geekbench app and have been running it on my various iOS devices. My wife's 4s and our two iPad 3's produce consistent results that vary by no more than ~30 points. My iPhone 5 varies between ~800 and ~1649. Why is there such a tremendous variance? All the devices had no background apps running, and the results were the same even after rebooting the devices. Is their something wrong with my phone, the app, or is this normal? If it is normal, why have I not seen others mentioning this issue and why are none of my other IOS devices showing such variance? Thanks in advance.

I should also note that at times it shows my A6 processor speed at as little as 1.09 ghz though it is generally 1.29 or 1.3. This doesn't appear to have a direct correlation to the variance in geekbench scores.

    Hi David,

Thanks for your message, and I'm sorry you're having problems with Geekbench. I've heard several reports of inconsistent results on the iPhone 5, but I've been unable to reproduce them myself. Right now I'm working on an update to Geekbench based on what I think is happening; for now I'd say this is more likely an issue with Geekbench on the new A6 processor than an issue with your phone.

    Best,
    John

Cool, thanks John. Now I'm off to amend my iTunes review to 5 stars. Should you find out that it isn't the app please keep me posted. Take care!

Im having same issue with my iphone 5. I start off with like 1100 or so and every test i run it slowly gets faster and faster...about 5 test and im at 1640's.

If ilet the phone idel for a few minuites or so, and i run bench test again it starts again at a low number and slowly goes up. Maybe thats the way the chip was designed to conserve mroe battery?

How about this, if i play a game likie Contract killer for like 5 min, then i go run a bench test my score is in the 1640's again....so yea. Tested geekbench with another friends iphone 5 and same thing, start off at slow speeds, works it way up at about the 5th test, its were it needs to be.

No apps in backgroubnd, airplane mode to make sure is on.

    Oscar -

We're still looking into the problem. I will post here once a solution has been found.

Here is an update on the status of this issue.

We're currently working with Apple to solve the problem of reduced iPhone 5 performance while on battery power. Until a solution is found we recommend that customers run Geekbench on their iPhone 5 while it is plugged into a power source.

    John

I tried plugging it in and still am having the same issues. Low scores that gradually increase to mid 1600's.

Interesting. I'll pass that information along to Apple. Once the score is back in the 1600s what happens if you lock the phone and leave it alone for a few minutes (while it's still plugged in, of course)?

Sometimes it is in the 1600's and sometimes it is still low.

    David,

Could you try running Geekbench with iOS 6.1 (or later) installed and letting me know if you still encounter the problem with variable results?

    Thanks,
    John
