Why does the Geekbench 3 report say Bits "32" for my 64-bit computer?

For example, I attach a screenshot of my profile, showing two computers:

  1. Intel Corporation W2600CR - which is my 64-bit system (two lines in my profile)
  2. Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor - which is my (old) 32-bit system

They are both listed on the profile as "Bits = 32", and I take this to mean 32-bit operating systems. How come?

I bought Geekbench 3 for Linux today and according to

http://www.primatelabs.com/geekbench/versions/

the non-free version of Geekbench 3 does 64-bit Benchmarks as well as 32-bit Benchmarks.

I ran it to get the line 246528 in my profile.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

The "bits" column reports the bitness of the benchmark, not the bitness of your operating system. If you run the 64-bit version of Geekbench (geekbench_x86_64 under Linux) and upload the result you'll see that bits will be 64 for that result.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John

    Thanks John.

I've had a look but I have not been able to find out if I used "geekbench_x86_64" to do the benchmarks, so I thought that I would just reinstall the software and do it again.

If I go to the website, no matter how I start the download, I see that the file being downloaded is "Geekbench-3.1.4-Linux.tar.gz".

How can I get hold of "geekbench_x86_64"?

    Hi,

geekbench_x86_64 is part of Geekbench-3.1.4-Linux.tar.gz. You can find out how to extract geekbench_x86_64 by following these instructions:

    http://support.primatelabs.com/kb/geekbench/installing-geekbench-on...

Let me know if you have any questions about this process and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John

That's how I installed Geekbench when I bought Geekbench on 3.12.2013, and it's how I got the above results.

I'll install it again and see what happens.
. . . Yep now it shows 'Bits = 64'. That's what I expected before. I'm not sure what the difference is, but it is possible (even know I would know to look in the dist/Geekbench-*.*.*-Linux/ folder) that I copied and pasted "./geekbench_x86_32" from the instructions http://support.primatelabs.com/kb/geekbench/installing-geekbench-on... without changing the 32 to 64.

I think it would be worth adding

    or
    ./geekbench_x86_64

    to the instructions.

    Thanks for your help.

I'm glad to hear everything is working now! I'll update our Linux documentation to include both the 32-bit and 64-bit commands.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John
