Major score drop for 2007 Mac mini
I have a mid-2007 Mac mini Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM and a 7200 rpm 500GB HD. Over the past few months, I've run small rounds of tests as the OS and RAM has been upgraded, simply because I'm curious.
The first several rounds used GB 2.2.2 and would always produce a 64-bit score around 3425, whether I was running it under 10.6.8 or 10.7 or 10.7.1 and whether the mini had 2GB or 4GB of RAM.
This evening, however, I ran the tests again, having upgraded to 10.7.2 and Geekbench 2.2.3 semi-recently. This time 'round, my scores hovered in the 3050 area. There appear to be a few tests that are the big problems (I've yet to upload).
I realize that I've got two variables at play, but are there any known issues with either 10.7.2 or GB 2.2.3?

There are no known issues with Geekbench 2.2.3 or Mac OS X 10.7.2 that would cause the performance drop you're seeing.
Best,
John

Thanks, John. I suspected that was the case.
I did think of another variable in the situation. Since I did my last round of tests that produced 3400+ scores, I've upgraded the HD. It's still 500GB and still 7200rpm, but it's the Momentus XT hybrid drive from Seagate instead of a WD Scorpio Black. However, if I've read the test documentation closely enough, Geekbench is almost entirely I/O independent. Is that correct?

That's correct; Geekbench does not test I/O at all and Geekbench scores are not affected by the drive installed in your system.

Thanks for clearing that up, John. Much appreciated.
