Slower memory performance in Macbook

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new 15" Macbook Pro with the 2.8 processor and 16GB of RAM.

It's processor performance comes in right on target, but the *memory* performance is actually ~10% lower than my old Macbook Pro's, which is a mid-2012 model with 8GB of RAM.

Both sets of RAM are DDR3 1600 MHz.

Do you think the lower performance in the new Macbook is cause for concern?

    Hi Marko,

Thank you for your message. I don't think the lower memory performance is a cause for concern. Higher-density RAM modules (such as those found in your new MacBook Pro) can be slightly slower than lower-density RAM modules (such as those found in your old MacBook Pro). Also Apple may have switched to a different manufacturer who produces RAM with different latencies in the last two years.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John
