Hello,

Does Geekbench properly support comparisons between a bare metal configuration and a virtual machine? Are there gotchas that I should be aware of in order to get a meaningful comparison?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

    Hi Ben,

Thank you for your message. You can compare the performance of a "bare metal" machine and a virtual machine with Geekbench. Most of the time it "just works", but in rare circumstances the high-resolution timers Geekbench uses to measure performance can be inaccurate. VMWare has a white paper that outlines how to avoid this problem (see page 11, Virtual TSC for details).

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John
