Disabling Cores?
I am trying to compare a Macbook pro with a quad core i7 to an HP I have with an i7 as well. However, the HP is only a dual core. In an attempt to level the playing field I am trying to disable two cores on the Mac. I downloaded xcode 4.1 hoping to find a utility in CHUD to do this, but alas I can't find it.
Can I tell Geekbench to only use x number of cores when running a benchmark?
Thanks,

Hi,
Thanks for your message. Geekbench 2.2 (which is currently in beta) will provide registered users with a way to disable cores when running Geekbench.
If you'd like to try out the beta let me know and I'll add you to our beta tester list. Otherwise watch the Primate Labs twitter feed (@primatelabs) or subscribe to the Primate Labs Blog (http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/) for an announcement when Geekbench 2.2 is released!
Best,
John

Thanks John. I'd definitely be interested in beta testing. Where can I get a copy of the latest build?

Hi David,
I sent you a link to the beta a couple of days ago but I realized there aren't any instructions on how to limit Geekbench to a certain number of cores.
You'll want to install the command-line tools (found under the Geekbench menu) to accomplish this as this functionality isn't exposed through the GUI. Once installed you can run the following command line to limit Geekbench to two cores:
geekbench --workers 2
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to answer them!
Best,
John
