Wiinote connected, but keynote not responding

Hello,

I've used Wiinote with Keynote successfully some months ago (early June sometime I think), but now keynote will not respond to any button presses. I went through the "Troubleshooting Connection Problems" article in the knowledge base, but I still have problems.

The issue is not connecting. I can connect just fine (open Wiinote, hit 1 & 2 on remote and it connects), but pressing buttons does nothing. My thought was maybe some update that maybe broke it?

I'm still on Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 so it's not Lion. Any ideas?

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for your message, and I'm sorry you're having problems with Wiinote. I've never heard of an issue like this before, so unfortunately I don't have an easy solution at hand. Do any other applications (i.e., iTunes or DVD Player) still work with Wiinote?

    Thanks,
    John

    Hey John,

Currently nothing is working with Wiinote. It just says "Connected" for Wii Remote Status, but none of the actions are working.

    Thanks for the quick response

    Hi Michael,

Hm. Could you open the Console app (it's in /Applications/Utilities) and see if there are any Wiinote messages? If there are, could you send them to me?

    Thanks,
    John

    Sure thing John.

So as a bit of background: Originally, I was trying to get two different wiimotes to connect. One wouldn't connect and the other did. After I got the one to connect, I ran into the problem of it showing as connected but nothing happening. So that might explain why there are a lot of certain messages. (It looks like Warning: Attempted to stop already-stopped WiiRemoteDiscovery happens when I exit the application, but possibly other times as well. I'm sure you know as I believe you wrote this?)

    Thanks, Michael.

Looking at the logs it looks like the Wiinote is in a half-connected/half-disconnected state. You might need to reboot your computer to fix the underlying problem. Have you tried that already (I realize it's the most basic troubleshooting step possible, but I think it'll help here).

    Thanks,
    John

    Hey John,

No worries. After restart I'm having problems connecting. Bluetooth is on (discoverable is off), I have not connected it to bluetooth manually, and tried using reset on the Wiimote. Getting the same "could not perform SDP Query (-536870212)..." message in console, which is happening when it tries to connect.

Leaving the bluetooth preferences window open I can also see it appear in the detected devices section for a split second, but goes away too fast for me to see anything specific.

    I appreciate your help.

    Hi Michael,

It looks like you've potentially hit a bug in Wiinote that's going to take some effort to resolve. Unfortunately I can't give you an ETA as to when it will be fixed. I'll let you know when I have a beta build available for you to test.

Sorry I couldn't help you out today. :-(

    Best,
    John

    Hey John,

Just wanted to let you know I've got it working. When I contacted you I was trying this at home. Brought the wiimote to work and just tried connecting. At first it didn't work, but after hitting reset it connected on the first try and now works in Keynote. I'm not really sure what the issue is, perhaps there's some interfering device at home?

I mentioned having it working at home before, but it's always been kind of inconsistent in terms of being able to connect there. I've only tried from work just this once, so I don't know if it's similar or not.

Regardless, Thank you for your help. Your support was pleasantly quick =)

    Hi Michael,

I'm glad you got Wiinote working, although I'm not convinced I did anything to help! If you ever have any questions or problems with Wiinote in the future please let me know and I'll be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John
