Thanks for posting. There is currently an option to create page aliases in VoodooPad, which might help you with this. You can do this by going to the page "Social Movement Organization", opening the Info Palette, and adding the alias "SMOs". This would convert that text into a link to "Social Movement Organization". You can add several aliases for the same page. Is this what you are looking to do?

thanks for the reply!

I do know about aliases, but they are not quite what I am looking for.
The first reason is that they are unique, so I can't link within text like
I can with [[]]-style links: “I wrote more about this here” for
example is not possible (unless I want “here” to always point to SMOs).
I find aliases also impractical from a workflow point. Typing the above
sentence is way faster than opening up the aliases menu in the Info
Palette, creating a new alias, and then returning to the sentence I was
writing.

Thanks again for responding,
all the best,

Thanks for clarifying. In VoodooPad, there is an option on Rich Text pages to select text, control-click, and use "Link Selection to Page". Unfortunately, this option isn't present on Markdown pages, and it looks like you use that page type mostly. Would that option be helpful for you? If not, what behaviour would be most helpful to you?

yes, that option would be very helpful to have!
But even this behavior involves clicking instead of typing, which is always
going to be slower than typing.
VoodooPad already has some matching/converting for WikiLinks in the
CamelCase format that is purely typing based and works in Markdown pages,
so having that combined with arbitrary text as the link text like in the
“Link Selection to Page” behavior would be the most helpful. The standard on Wikipedia that I think makes the most sense works like this:
"The Martian, was later adapted into a film of the same name directed by Ridley Scott in
2015” (see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Weir).

If we could then get a tab-complete/dropdown for existing pages after
typing [[ and a couple of letters, I would be in complete heaven!

Thanks! I've passed your suggestion along to the team, and we will see if we can incorporate it into future iterations of VoodooPad. If you have any other feedback or questions, let me know.

It's frustrating that one loses the ability to make non-unique links in the markdown style pages. Implementing the syntax that already exists in the MultiMarkdown language, as seen in this style guide (and used to create that link), would add the behavior that Lukas and I are looking for.
It would be good if the "Link selection to page" functioned as well, but I would vote for the former option first.

neberheim
