many crashes with data loss

First of all, I am very happy that Voodoopad seems finally get some support again, after all those years ...

But unfortunately, it seems that it is very buggy at the moment.

I have many crashes on the mac app. And many crashes i the iOS app. I use whole document encryption.
When the iphone app crashes, it might be that I cannot start ist again, it keeps crashing. After that, the Mac Version tells me it needs to "upgrade the document" (synced via dropbox) but after that it says it cannot open it.

When I look into the document and compare it with a backup: in the broken one the 4 plist files are missing: vde, collections, tags, storeinfo. Only properties is there.

 To be sure it's not some legacy problem of the document, I created brand new document. Same.

UPDATE: System Info: MacBookPro 14,3 macOS 10.13.4. // iphone 7 iOS 11.3 and 11.4 // VoodooPad lives in /Applications ; document is in ~/Dropbox/VoodooPad/ there's nothing else in that folder, except a .DS_Store file // VoodooPad app are -- of course -- the recent versions 5.2.0

UPDATE2: my documents are just a bunch of text files. I Use Markdown. (Except those cases when voddoepad reverts the default back to rtf, then I might create one or two rtf documents, before I notice)

   Thanks for posting in so much detail. I'd like to ask a couple of questions to clarify a bit more.

   Do both Mac and iOS versions crash when you are not linked to Dropbox or has it only happened while linked to Dropbox?

   And are you able to provide a screenshot of the message that prompts you to "upgrade the document"?

   And just to check, have you been able to recover your document using your backup?

   Hi Sarah,

   it's hard to be sure, of course the apps only crash when I don't want them to ;-)
   It looks like the crash only happens when linked via dropbox and perhaps only when open on ios/macos at the same time. I was editing only on one device at the time, of course.

   I had this situation when a page kept switching back to an older state, many times. So this might be related to some other bug I've read about, that pages are marked as changed, as soon as document is opened. Maybe the one just open was saving itself all the time, overwriting the newer version...?

   As for the upgrade message, you can provoke that by simply removing the storeinfo.plist file. One of the files that went missing on the crashes.

   Yes, I was able to recover from backup. But it's only useful with syncing for me and I don't feel comfortable with depending on it as it is now. So I exported my data to some other app, again :(
