Uncouple GeekBench from Mac App store
Hi,
I won't mislead you, I run an OSX "Hackintosh". However, I have successfully downloaded and used Geekbench form the MAc App store. I've recently upgraded some system hardware and cannot run GeekBench as my system will not authorise. Is there any way I can pay for a "crossgrade" to remove GeekBemch from Mac App Store licensing. I do have my iTunes / App Store receipt as proof of original purchase.
Kindest Regards,
Pete Springfield

Hi Pete,
Thanks for your message. If you want to continue to use Geekbench from the Mac App Store try deleting Geekbench then re-installing it from the Mac App Store. I've talked to a couple of other users who had the same problem and this fixed it for them.
If that doesn't work let me know and I'll figure out something else!
Best,
John

Hi John,
Just a courtesy note to say that I appreciate your prompt response even though Geekbench is a low cost utility. I fixed my problem through some extensive forum searching around the net.
I appreciate that mention of unofficial Apple hardware "Hackintosh" may be a sensitive issue for a company distributing via the Mac App Store so please feel free to remove my posting if you feel it prudent to do so.
Kindest Regards and thanks again,
Pete Springfield

Hi Pete,
I'd be interested in finding out how you fixed the problem so I can help other customers who will undoubtably hit the same problem in the future.
Thanks for your sensitivity regarding our relationship with Apple, but I'm not terribly concerned about what hardware our customers are running!
Best,
John

Hi,
Success! I've been able to rectify this particular problem and it turns out that Mac App Store authorisation problems are common to genuine Apple and Hackintosh users alike.
Just before providing some detail, I'd like to make it clear that this was never a Geekbench problem and also that John here kindly offered to get me going again as you can see above.
So, if you are having authorisation problems, I'd recommend a look at Tonymac's site here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=157&t=23153
The user "Eelhead' has provided a number of alternatives to try and it was the first option that worked for me.
This might seem awkward for genuine Apple users but unfortunately Apple's own support forums don't fully address the range of possible fixes. I've taken the liberty of copying the possible fixes here as I've credited the original source above.
This is after updating to 10.6.8
Ok for the app store sign in issues here is a simple fix.
First go to Extra folder and check your com.apple.Boot.plist (or Library/Preferences/System Configuration if its not in extra folder)
to make sure that this string is in it,
EthernetBuiltIn
Yes
If it isn't add it restart and see if that fixes it.
__________________________________________________________________ If it is in there or if adding it didn't help you need to remove some other items
Go to,
System preferences/Network
You'll want to highlight each one and remove it by clicking the - tab at bottom of box.
Then go to,
Library/Preferences/System Configuration
and delete or place on desktop the NetworkInterfaces.plist
Then restart system.
After you restart you will want to go back to System Preferences/Network and
add all the things you removed starting with ethernet.
___________________________________________________________ If those steps don't work then try;
adding the following to your com.apple.Boot.plist:
PCIRootUID
1
Then remove the NetworkInterfaces.plist and rebooted
What I had noticed is that the ethernet was labeled en0 and Airport card was en1 and after update the numbers got switched. It was only switched in the NetworkInterfaces.plist but stayed the same in every other settings so it was give conflicting things while trying to log into the app store.

Hi All,
Firstly, note above that John kindly offered to help me out despite this being an Apple App Store problem primarily so sincere thanks for that.
There are a lot of people out there in the genuine Apple and Hackintosh community alike suffering from problems and the best round-up I found was on the "tonymacx86 forum" which I've linked to below. Thanks are due to the user "lnx2mac" over there for providing the information that cured my App Store problem.
Apple do seem to be advising App Store customers of the "delete network preferences.plist@ option but oblivious to the others so it's worth trying the options giving.
I'll take the liberty of copying the details here in case the link to the forum becomes invalid.
Kindest Regards,
Pete

Hi John,
Justa courtesy note to mention that I've tried to update the support page with a response a couple of times now. My reply may well be awaiting moderation but I didn't want you to think that I had simply ignored your request.
Kindest Regards,
Pete Springfield
