Internal Timer Error Detected?
I am getting this error on my Windows 7 64Bit machine in 32 or 64bit mode. It happens at the "Stream Triad" portion. I've shut down all other apps, no AV software etc...

Hi Dean,
When an internal timer error is detected it means that Geekbench has detected a problem with the high-resolution timers it uses to measure performance. Usually this error means that the timers are running slow (or fast) compared to the system clock, and that the benchmark results are unreliable.
Do you have any software installed that might be affecting the timers?
Best,
John

That's a pretty open question :-). I have a ton of software. The machine is on an ASUS Rampage III Extreme mobo which includes a number of tech utilities.... Anyplace I should start looking? I turned pretty much everything off...

Hi Dean,
Have you done any overclocking with this system (especially software overclocking)? That's the first thing that springs to mind, since that can affect the timers Geekbench uses to measure performance.
If that's not the culprit, I'll have to send you a diagnostic build to figure out how much skew was detected in the timers. What processor are you using?
Best,
John

The motherboard/BIOS has built in OC utilities but I don't have any of it running. I unloaded everything possible (services, apps etc) and ran it and got the same error.
Running an i7 950.

i-7, 960. Same issue. I have no clocking software running nor is anything hard-clocked.
Internal Timer Error Detected
Thanks

I have just observed the same thing on a Gateway Core2-based laptop: Model M460E.
The processor is a T5600 1.83Ghz "Centrino Duo"
It's running Win7 Pro 32 bit system.
I'll be happy to run the diagnostic version too if you wish.
Best regards,

I've got the same error trying to run GeekBench under vanilla Windows XP SP3 running in VirtualBox.

I am too getting the same error at the same test point. This is on a Windows 7 machine. It is the case that I have it overclocked. I will possibly reset to baseline and try again, but I don't know why I should have to do that (overclocking is what gives me a bit better performance)

Hi Curtis,
How are you overclocking your system? Also, if you watch the "Elapsed" timer in the "Benchmark Progress" dialog box while the benchmark is running does the timer run faster than it should?
Thanks,
John

All stock.
I'm not overclocking at all.

Internal Timer Error for me too. I'm on a brand new install of Win 7, fully updated, with a Gigabyte Z68M board and the Intel i7 260, no overclock whatsoever, nor any manufacturer overclock utilities installed! Feel free to send me the diagnostics to help troubleshoot!

If you're still encountering internal timer errors could you download and run Geekbench 2.3.0 and let me know what error message (if any) you receive? You can download Geekbench for Windows here:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/geekbench/Geekbench-2.3.0-WindowsSetup.exe
Thanks,
John

I have the same issue, i have done software overclocking in the past but don't use it anymore.
Is there any way to fix the internal clock?
Support Staff 16 Posted by John on Jul 10, 2012 @ 07:34 PM
Geekbench 2.3.4 was released today which should fix some of the timer errors people on this thread have been experiencing. Could you download Geekbench 2.3.4 and let me know if you're still experiencing the error?
Thanks,
John

This comment was split into a new discussion: Software Overclock and Internal Timer Errors
Hi John,
Just ran the test, it failed proclaiming the above timer disrepancy, undid my overclock (seeing how the disrepancy matched my software fsb OC perfectly), then pressed "run benchmark" again... It finished and popped up the score. Sadly, my score is incorrectly added to the database, seeing how that score says it comes from the overclocked system, while it does not.
Two things, I'm sad that it fails while software overclocked, and would love to see that fixed (ps: the elapsed timer seems to match the hi-res one, and not actual human time), and, I'd appreciate it if there was a message stating that the system information is only checked at launch, and will be uploaded as such, so any changes in those details made while GeekBench is runnning will enable incorrect results to be uploaded (yet the proper solution would be to update those system information details after the user has clicked 'start benchmark').
Posted here since the only other thread mentioning 'timer' is locked.
It's a Pentium D by the way.

10 Years later and same issue. LOL.
