I bought GeekBench 5 in the AppleStore, but it doesn't seem to measure Memory Transfer rate like the older version my friend has.

Am I misseding something?

Andrew Shawtag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-22T13:09:47Z2020-02-22T13:09:49ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

You're not missing it - RAM throughput benchmarks are not included in GB5.

Artem S. I’ve suffered from faulty RAM, personally

lkgreenwelltag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-26T08:34:16Z2020-02-26T08:34:20ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

RAM bandwidth calculation will not help you determine faulty RAM and there are better specialized benchmarks for RAM, e.g. Aida64.

The test was included previously because ostensibly RAM speed affected your CPU performance quite a lot but nowadays it's no longer the case. Also, it skewed results considerably, i.e. very slow CPUs with overclocked RAM showed unnatural scores which didn't really reflect computation speed.

Artem S. Tashkinovtag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-26T09:55:07Z2020-02-26T09:55:08ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

This is true, but RAM speed does give an indication as to whether you have installed the correct DIMMS in the correct slots and they are behaving correctly.

If you have 2x16GB DIMMS and 2x8GB DIMMS, no matter how to install them Mac Diagnostics say good, but you get twice the speed if you

Bank0-Slot0 - 16GB
Bank0-Slot1 - 8GB
Bank1-Slot0 - 16GB
Bank1-Slot1 - 8GB

It would just be nice to determine whether the RAM modules are install correctly by seeing their throughput rather than “trusting” the systems RAM display.

Andrew Shawtag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-26T10:08:32Z2020-02-26T10:08:32ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

Thanks. “Alles klar” (delighted with gb5 app btw)

lkgreenwelltag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-27T23:25:39Z2020-02-27T23:25:42ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

Again, Aida64 comes in handy for that.

It has a very nice cache and memory benchmark.

Artem S. Tashkinovtag:support.primatelabs.com,2011-01-31:Comment/481077892020-02-28T11:15:47Z2020-02-28T11:15:47ZMemory Rate no longer in GeekBench?

Got it - thanks for the hint

lkgreenwell
