I just traded in my late 2014 27" iMac i7 4.0 GHz for a new 2019 27" iMac i9. The scores on the new machine are significantly slower than the old one - Is the testing the same as it was 5 years ago?

GeekBench 5, which just released, uses a different scoring method compared to 4, which in turn was different from 3. I'm not sure which version you used 5 years ago but it was most likely 3.

For comparison my Ryzen 7 2700x scored about 28,000 on GeekBench 4 but only scores about 7,000 on 5. Likewise my video card scored up to 350,000 on 4 but only gets about 70,000 on 5. I wouldn't say these are representative but it is pretty consistent from what I am seeing.

read the announcement! everything is ok

the baseline of geekbench 4 is a i7-6600u with 4000 points

now in geekbench 5, is a i3-8100 with 1000 points.

I ordered the upgrade from V3 from an email, so of course I just assumed . . . Thanks for the info. Hated that feeling of buyers remorse that came along with a new machine and a lower score.
