Purchased product won't work
Hi,
Got Geekbench 3.0.2 on Eight Core Early 2008 Mac Pro 2.8GHz under OS X 10.7
Main window says everything is "unknown" and the benchmark window simply flashes up and then disappears without a result. (see attached)
Not great so far, please help
Regards

OK...turns out the product doesn't work when using a non-Apple video card.
Not sure why that would be an issue when the computer itself will happily run the card but, there it is.
For those who are interested, the non-Apple card is an ATI Radeon 5770.

That's strange. Geekbench 3 should work even with non-Apple video cards.
Could you send us the crash logs so we can investigate the problem? Crash logs are located in the Library folder. To locate the Library folder, choose 'Go to Folder' from Finder’s 'Go' menu and type:
Please send us any files in that directory that have Geekbench (or geekbench) in the filename. You can send the files directly to our support email address (support at primatelabs dot com).

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
It doesn't crash, it just flashes for a moment and then goes away. The app is still running, just the tests do nothing.
There are no logs generated at the location you describe.
We looked in the root log folder as well and there are also no logs there.
If I throw out the preferences files it simply requires the serial number again.
All OK with the standard 7300GT video card as well as an Apple GT8800 Nvidia.
Just won't work with an ATI 5770 even though the machine works OK with that video card.
It's not the end of the world but it does make it hard to benchmark the machine in reference to choice between these video cards.

I'm having exactly the same problem on a 2008 XServe 1,2 8-core 2.8GHz. It has the native video card (X1300) and an ATI HD5570 card.
Help!

Again, this is very strange. I'm not sure what's going on here.
Would either of you be willing to run a special build of Geekbench with extra diagnostics enabled?

I'm happy to do so because this is happening on a machine we haven't bought on line yet.

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I've uploaded a diagnostic build that should help us track down the source of the problem. You can download the build from the following location:
http://geekbench.s3.amazonaws.com/beta/Geekbench-3.1.2-Mac.zip
Once you've run the build could you send me the Geekbench.log file it generates (it will be located in your home directory). Hopefully it will contain information that will help us diagnose and fix the problem.
Thanks,
John

Hello John,
This diagnostic build will now run on our machine. Currently it contains a non-Apple 5770 graphics card as well as the Apple 2600 that was
shipped with the machine.
We've attached a log file for you from running the 64bit test.
Once the build goes past a diagnostic version will the log file be stored in a more discrete location?

I'm running this on a Hackintosh - all system info is listed as "Unknown".
Here is the log.
[1125/152242:INFO:src/geekbench/license.cpp(92)] email: [1125/152242:INFO:src/geekbench/license.cpp(93)] key:
[1125/152242:INFO:src/geekbench/license.cpp(105)] invalid [1125/152250:INFO:src/geekbench/backend_driver.cpp(113)] Could not find backend at /Users/patrick/Downloads/Geekbench 3.app/Contents/MacOS/geekbench_ [1125/152250:INFO:src/geekbench/backend_driver.cpp(116)] Could not find backend at /Users/patrick/Downloads/Geekbench 3.app/Contents/Resources/geekbench_
When I took things a step further and copied the geekbench_x86_64 as geekbench_, the app ran further and I saw "Gathering System Information", then it just came back to the main window.

Also getting this on a MacPro and the debug log contains the same problem of could not find backend.
I just upgraded to GB 3 from 2 so any idea why this isn't working ? I paid for the software hoping to check out the speed comparisons with my real Mac and a Hackintosh - should have tried the trial version first maybe....?

There seems to be an issue with the software resolving system information. An issue that the OS does not seem to have. Where is it looking for info?

Blicka,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Our support system flagged your comment as spam.
You mentioned that the diagnostic build works for you -- does that mean the system information is populated on the main screen and that you are able to run the benchmarks successfully?
Thanks,
John

Patrick,
Thank you for the log file. While there's a lot of great information in the log file we may need additional information in order to diagnose the problem. I will have a new build ready to go by the end of the week that will collect this additional information, and I would be grateful if you could run it for us.
Thanks,
John

John,
From what I understand of your product it has now returned a full set of benchmarks when running the new diagnostic build.
This was on a machine that had a non-Apple 5770 and also an Apple branded 2600 video card fitted simultaneously.
I've yet to check with only a non-Apple 5770 installed on it's own, which is how the scenario started.

Hi,
Was this problem ever resolved? I'm still having the "unknown" problem and
unable to run the benchmarks on several machines. Here is a recent one I
tried tonight, with no luck:
Stock Apple XServe 2,1 Dual Quad 3Ghz Xeon, 16GB RAM, Lion (10.7.5) Server
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben,
We ended up giving up on the product. It works on some machines and not others.
One suggestion we have from our tests is that the bug relies heavily on the model of video card that is installed versus the particular OS version.

Blicka
