I have just downloaded Geekbench 3, too.
My Geekbench 2 Serial Number does not work, too.
Is this correct or do I need to buy an update?

Downloaded the latest version (3) of Geekbench and opened it and attempted to validate using cut and paste from the version 2 receipt and it doesn't like the numbers. I am running 10.8.4 of OSX

They want you to buy the update too, even if you already bought a license for Geekbench. That way they make 2x profit. Tough luck, faithful customers; it's a ripoff. I already did the right thing and paid for a license. Now it doesn't work. Not a good way to treat your customers.

Hi folks,
Geekbench 3 is a paid upgrade from Geekbench 2, so your Geekbench 2 license key will not work.
Since we can’t offer upgrade pricing to our App Store customers, we’ve decided to offer an introductory price to everyone. If you purchase Geekbench 3 before August 31st, you’ll receive $5 off the single-platform license, $10 off the cross-platform license, or $50 off the professional license.
We've put a lot of work into Geekbench 3 (over a year went into developing and testing the new benchmark tests) and I think it's well worth the price.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.
Best,
John

It is less than 5 months ago that I purchased my Geekbench 2 license. You may have put a year of work in this update but I do not feel I have gotten the value from my purchase, so I really do not think this is well worth the price.
I agree with earlier comments of feeling being ripped off.

I understand your frustration. However, this is our first paid upgrade in over six years. We put a lot of work into the new version, and again, I think it's worth the upgrade price.
If you disagree and decide to stick with Geekbench 2, I understand. You can still download Geekbench 2 from the Geekbench 2 website. Your Geekbench 2 license still works. The Geekbench Browser still works with Geekbench 2. We'll still provide updates that fix critical bugs in Geekbench 2.
We're not trying to rip people off. We're trying to build a sustainable business, and part of that means asking our customers to pay for major upgrades. If you decide the upgrade isn't worth it, then stick with the old version and we'll still support you.

I bought v.2 back in 2010, so I'm just fine with paying for an up-grade, seems perfectly reasonable, BUT, you invalidated my old license for Ver2? Now, THAT I find unacceptable. Is this the case, or is there something on my end that is glitching? Tried on two machines, cut&paste, says invalid..

Hi Rob,
Your Geekbench 2 license should still work with Geekbench 2 (we haven't done anything to invalidate existing licenses). Could you email support at primatelabs dot com with your license information and we'll get things working again?
Thanks,
John
