Cache reporting, Mac OS X vs. Windows

Hi,

I am running Geekbench 2.2.7 on my iMac, both in OS X, and on Windows 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp. I get different GB results, which isn't suprising or troubling, but one thing is.

My iMac is running a Sandy Bridge Core i5, which has 4 cores, no multi-threading. When GB runs on Windows, it reports the caches levels as being xxx KB x 4 (which makes sense, 4 cores).

However, on Mac OS X, the same machine and CPU reports the caches as xxx KB x 2, implying that either Geekbench or OS X might not be fully utilizing the CPU's architecture.

Any insights from anyone on this?

Thanks,

Todd

    Hi Todd,

Thanks for your message, and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Geekbench doesn't use cache information to determine how to run its benchmarks. So even if Geekbench misreports cache information (like it did for your iMac) it will not affect the benchmark results.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'd be happy to help out.

    Best,
    John
